A campaign which aimed to celebrate inclusivity won the Creative Media Award at the 10th Asian Media Awards.
#BeVisible: See the Ability, Not the Difference, Ethnic Reach for Vatika UK told the inspiring personal stories of six women who identify as having visible differences.
Visible differences can be described as a scar, mark or condition on the face or body that makes an individual look different such as vitiligo, alopecia or other noticeable skin diseases or impairments.
#BeVisible: celebrated being brave enough to stand proud of who you are without filters.
The campaign was commended for its authenticity and originality.
The campaign came to fruition through the work of brand marketing agency Ethnic Reach. Co-directed by British Asian actor and director Ameet Chana & Vikrant Chopra. The music score was produced by recording artist Rishi Rich with powerful images by photography duo, Amit & Naroop.
Sunny Suri of Ethnic Reach who created the campaign said:: “I am really proud of winning this Creative Media Award. This is about representation and inclusivity.
“We have to be more proud of who we are and what we do. This campaign changed the narrative!
“We wanted Vatika to be the first Asian brand to feature South Asians with visible differences. We were really pleased to be able to create content that truly reflects diverse communities, decreasing South Asian cultural bias and elevating voices through positive, thoughtful and inspiring messaging.”
The 2022 awards celebrated the achievements of journalists, broadcasters and leading creative industry professionals.
The ceremony hosted by Sky Sports News presenter Bela Shah saw special awards for LBC News host Lisa Aziz, BBC 5Live broadcaster Nihal Arthanayake and acclaimed TV and stage actor Kulvinder Ghir of Goodness Gracious Me fame.
The awards honoured journalism, online, radio, TV, creative media, stage, theatre and live events in 23 categories and was back at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate where the first awards took place in 2013.
The University of Salford are the Premier Partners for the awards which aim to shine a light on the accomplishments of media professionals from across the UK.
The 2022 Asian Media Awards winners of all categories and special awards were revealed at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Friday October 28.
Previous recipients of an Asian Media Award include Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Waris Hussein, Art Malik, Mehdi Hasan, Nina Wadia, Anita Rani, Shobna Gulati, Faisal Islam & Adil Ray.
